# Claude Connector

> Add the Etherscan connector to Claude and query live onchain data in chat, with no API key.

The Etherscan connector brings live onchain data into Claude. Add it from Claude's connector directory, then ask about wallets, transactions, and contracts in plain language. It needs no API key or Etherscan account, and every tool is read-only.

## Get started

<Steps>
  <Step title="Add the connector">
    Open [Etherscan in Claude's connector directory](https://claude.ai/directory/etherscan), sign in to Claude, and select **Connect to Claude**.

    </Frame>
  </Step>

  <Step title="Ask your first question">
    Start a new chat and ask in plain language:

    ```text theme={null}
    Inspect a verified Ethereum smart contract and its deployment details. 0xA0b86991c6218b36c1d19D4a2e9Eb0cE3606eB48
    ```

    In this example, Claude calls three Etherscan tools:

    * `get_contract_source` for the verified source code and metadata
    * `get_contract_creation` for the deployer and creation transaction
    * `get_contract_abi` for the contract's ABI

    It then explains that this is USDC, a verified upgradeable proxy, with its deployment details and current implementation.

  </Step>
</Steps>

## What you can ask

Ask in plain language. Claude picks the right Etherscan tools for:

* Native coin balances and ERC-20, ERC-721, and ERC-1155 token transfers for any address
* Normal and internal transaction history
* A transaction's details, receipt, and status
* Verified contract source code and ABI, plus a contract's creator and creation transaction
* Event logs filtered by address and topics
* The block at a given time, current gas prices, and the list of supported chains

It works across all 60+ [supported chains](/supported-chains). Name the chain in your question, such as "on Base" or "on Arbitrum". Results can also appear as an interactive Etherscan card.

## Limits

The connector uses the keyless [Etherscan MCP](/build-with-ai/mcp) server:

* **16 read-only tools.** The PRO tools are not included: token holdings, token info, top holders, funding source, and address labels.
* **Rate limited.** Its limits are separate from API plans.

Need the PRO tools or higher limits? Set up the Etherscan MCP server with your own API key in Claude Desktop or Claude Code instead. It includes all 21 tools and uses your API plan's limits. See [Etherscan MCP](/build-with-ai/mcp) for setup.

## Good to know

* **Read-only.** Every tool reads public onchain data. Nothing signs or sends a transaction.
* **Verify what matters.** Results keep exact addresses, hashes, and amounts, so you can check them on Etherscan.
* **Guard against prompt injection.** Be cautious when combining Etherscan with other connectors in the same chat.
